Entry visa and Student Pass requirements for Tanzania
All students are required to get an entry visa and a student pass to Tanzania. Please review the following information carefully to ensure a smooth arrival and stay. If you have questions please email furahamosha@uwcea.org
REFERAL COUNTRIES START APPLYING NOW✅
Entry visa: All visitors are required to get an entry visa to enter Tanzania. For most students, we recommend obtaining an entry visa on arrival at the airport, as this is usually the most straightforward option. The cost is $50 USD ($100 for US passport holders) and can be paid in cash (a new, fresh bill) or debit/ credit card.
However, pay careful attention if your country is on Tanzania’s “Referral Visa” list, as you must apply in advance and receive approval for your entry visa before traveling to Tanzania. This status also applies to those who are considered stateless persons or persons with refugee status.
This process can take up to six weeks from the time you submit your application. To avoid delays on your arrival at the school, apply well in advance.
To check if your country requires a referral visa, please consult only the government's official list (link above) or contact your nearest Tanzanian embassy.
Follow the step-by-step instructions carefully while applying.
START APPLYING IN JUNE🗓️
Student pass: Apart from the entry visa, all students must obtain a student pass to legally study at UWC East Africa. The student pass is a long-term residency permit required by Tanzanian immigration authorities, and the process must be started before arrival and will be finished shortly after the student's arrival.
The student pass is valid for two years from the start date of the application. To ensure it remains valid throughout the two academic years at UWC East Africa, please start and submit your application only in June or later—applying earlier may result in an expiration before the student's graduation date.
Parents are responsible for applying for the student pass for the first time and any renewals as needed, ensuring compliance with Tanzanian immigration laws. The UWC East Africa team will provide support and guidance, but it is the family’s responsibility to initiate and complete these steps to maintain the student’s legal status in the country.
Follow the step-by-step instructions carefully while applying.
In order to make the process smoother and ensure that the applications are submitted correctly, we have created a step-by-step guide. Many of the fields are straightforward information; however, pay careful attention to the guide to avoid errors.
If you have any questions related to the referral visa, entry visa, or student pass application, please email furahamosha@uwcea.org and cc admissions@uwcea.org.
As soon as you have received the confirmation details that the application is complete, please submit your login credentials using this form to monitor the progress.
While UWC East Africa will assist in processing your student pass, it is ultimately the responsibility of each student and their family to track the progress of the application and ensure all requirements are met on time.
We understand the system isn’t always perfectly user-friendly, so here’s an important tip: If you haven’t received an update or approval email, don’t rely only on the “Application Status” section. Instead, click on “Continue Application”—this is where you’ll see if any documents need to be uploaded again or if immigration has requested clarification. While UWC East Africa will assist in processing your student pass, it is ultimately the responsibility of each student and their family to track the progress of the application and ensure all requirements are met on time.
To help us support and monitor your application if needed, we kindly ask that, once you receive confirmation that the application is complete, you submit your login credentials using this form. This will allow us to follow up on your behalf if any issues arise.
Monitoring both sections will help ensure your application progresses smoothly.
